The 1992 Olympic champion gymnast Oksana Chusovitina decided to prepare for her performance at the 2024 Games in Paris.

Chusovitina, who turns 47 in June, is the only gymnast in history to have competed at eight Summer Olympics. Born in Bukhara, the athlete played for the national teams of the USSR and Germany, and currently represents Uzbekistan. In addition to the Olympic gold, she has the silver of the 2008 Games in Beijing, as well as three victories, silver and bronze medals at the world championships.

After the Tokyo Games in July last year, she announced the end of her sports career. However, the gymnast later announced that she had decided to compete at the Asian Games in September 2022. In March, the athlete won gold in the vault at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha.

“I thought about it well and decided that after the Asian Games I would also prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympics,” Chusovitina said, answering a question on the website of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan about her plans in connection with the postponement of the 2022 Asian Games for an indefinite time.

Earlier, China Central Television, citing the leadership of the Olympic Council of Asia, reported that the 19th Asian Games, which were to be held on September 10-25 in Hangzhou, China, were postponed. The new date of the event and the reasons for the postponement have not yet been specified, however, this decision may be due to the epidemiological situation in China that has worsened in recent months, in particular in the city of Hangzhou and neighboring Shanghai.
