The Guardian: The sale of Chelsea to businessman Boely will be completed this week.

The sale of London football club Chelsea, owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, to American Todd Boehly, will be completed this week, The Guardian reports.

Chelsea has previously agreed on terms for the acquisition of a majority stake in the Blues by the Boehly consortium.

However, the sale of the club was called into question after Abramovich’s refusal to accept the deal proposed by the British government. Later it became known that the differences were settled, and the parties found a common language on how to deal with the club’s £1.6 billion debt to Abramovich.

According to the publication, Abramovich will agree to legally binding guarantees that will allow the money to be placed in a frozen account under the control of the United Kingdom government until it is sent to the charity for victims in Ukraine. It is expected that after the sale takes place, a charitable organization independent of Abramovich will be created.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003. Under him, the London club became the champion of England five times, won the FA Cup five times and won the English League Cup three times, and also won the Champions League and the Europa League twice.

In early March, he announced that he had put the club up for sale in connection with the sanctions due to the events in Ukraine.
