La Gazzetta dello Sport: Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona could be excluded from the Champions League in 2023.
Juventus Italy and Spain’s Real Madrid and Barcelona could be excluded from the 2023/24 Champions League if they refuse to pay fines for the creation of the Super League in April 2021, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Earlier, a court in Madrid overturned measures protecting Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus from persecution by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA), as well as national federations and championships for creating the Super League.
However, according to the source, UEFA currently has no desire to engage in proceedings with the clubs. This may happen later, in which case the clubs will be required to pay a fine of 15 million euros. The same punishment was suffered by all the clubs that were among the participants in the Super League.
If Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus refuse to pay the fine, UEFA could remove them from the Champions League.
In April 2021, 12 European clubs announced the creation of the Super League. FIFA, UEFA, national associations, representatives of the football community and fans have strongly criticized the idea of a new tournament. All English clubs announced their withdrawal from the project, followed by Inter Milan and Atlético Madrid. Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona remain committed to the idea of the Super League, against which UEFA has opened a disciplinary case for a possible violation of the organization’s legal framework in connection with the Super League project.
