Parma goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is disappointed that Andres Iniesta won the Ballon d’Or.
“For me, the biggest injustice associated with the Golden Ball is the absence of Iniesta. Andres was as strong as Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo,” Buffon told France Football.
In 2010, Iniesta was second in the voting, losing only to Barcelona partner Lionel Messi, and in 2012, third.
The performance statistics of the 38-year-old Spaniard, now playing for Vissel Kobe, can be found here.
Former Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon spoke about what he believes to be the biggest injustice associated with the Ballon d’Or.
“Am I angry because I never won the Ballon d’Or? This is not always logical. In 2003, I became the best player in the Champions League, which is rare for a goalkeeper, but I didn’t even make it into the top 5 of the Golden Ball. I don’t care about awards, but I strive for fairness in sports.
The biggest injustice associated with the Ballon d’Or was Iniesta’s absence. He was as strong as Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo, ”France Football quotes Buffon.
Recall that in 2010 Andres Iniesta became the second in voting for the Golden Ball, losing to Barcelona partner Lionel Messi. Two years later, the Spaniard rounded out the top three nominees.
